PARENT INFO (Q&A/FAQ)

How do I know if my child is eligible for Upward Bound?
Income is one of two possible eligibility factors. If your family income is above our federal guidelines, your child still is eligible for consideration, as long as neither parent/legal guardian with whom your child lives has a Bachelor's degree.

For Examples:

Income above federal guidelines + No Bachelor's Degree = Eligible for Consideration

Income below federal guidlines + Bachelor's Degree = Eligible for Consideration

Income above federal guidelines + Bachelor's Degree = Not Eligible for Consideration

If I have an Associate's degree, does my child still qualify for Upward Bound?
Yes. In order to qualify for Upward Bound, your child must come from a household where the parents and/or guardians hold less than a Bachelor's degree (a degree from a four year college program).

What are the academic expectations of Upward Bound?
Upward Bound expects that all participants will complete the challenging college preparatory curriculum by the end of their senior year in high school. UB participants are expected to successfully complete Regents exams in at least 2 math, 2 science, and 2 social courses. The majority of our UB participants complete at least 3 math and 3 science courses by the end of their senior year. This curriculum matches the entrance requirements of most competitive colleges.

What kind of supervision is provided for the students during the Summer Program?
We hire a competent staff of up to 4 upper-level college students to be Tutor-Counselors (TCs). These TCs provide constant supervision as well as attending all field trips during the summer program.

Can I visit my child during the Summer Program?
Parents/guardians are welcome to visit anytime. However, students' schedules are quite full with classes and activities. Any parent or guardian must sign their children out at the office.
